On Wednesday, February 17, 2011, traffic was brought to a standstill when a multi-vehicle crash shut down the outbound lanes of Highway 290 near Mueschke in Houston. According to unconfirmed reports, several people were injured in the collision. Crews trying to clear the scene were delayed because an 18-wheeler involved in the crash spilled fuel on the road. The crash happened just after 12:00 p.m. All lanes were still closed at 2:30 p.m. and traffic was being diverted to the feeder. The lanes were reopened in time for rush hour.
