A driver and his three passengers in a small sedan perished in a fatal Texas 18 wheeler accident when a tractor-trailer crossed the highway median and struck them head-on. The fatal Texas 18 wheeler accident occurred last Tuesday on Interstate 20 near the town of Merkel, about 20 miles west of Abilene. Police identified the driver as Jeffrey Knight, 50, and the passengers as Mary Knight, 51, Drew Reynolds, 23, and an unidentified juvenile. All but Mr. Reynolds died at the scene. Witness reports stated that the man, who has yet to be identified, was trying to jump start his stalled car near Highway 286. A tractor-trailer made a wide right turn onto the highway and caught the man in its back tires. The man was reportedly dragged for ten feet until the driver noticed the problem.
