Houston Emergency Respond to Multiple Ice Accidents

On Friday, February 4, 2011, Houston emergency crews rushed to several hundred accidents throughout the city related to icy road conditions. Two people were killed in Montgomery County around 7:00 a.m. when a driver lost control because of ice on State Highway 105 in New Caney and crashed.

Paramedics were forced to deliver a baby on the side of road, after the mother and father became stranded on Highway 288.

At least half a dozen people were involved in a collision at Highway 59 and Chimney Rock in the early morning hours. The ice was so bad, emergency workers had to “skate” up the exit ramp in order to reach those involved. Although shaken up, no motorist was seriously injured.

In the early morning hours emergency crews responded to an accident involving a dozen vehicles at the overpass on Highway 290 and Little York.
Several cars and an 18-wheeler were involved in an accident in the early morning at Spur 527 and Highway 59. Two people were taken to the hospital with injuries.

Rescue workers were called to the scene after ice on the road caused a sanding truck to overturn on the Katy Freeway. No serious injuries were reported.
