On April 21, 2011, Houston police say a man was arrested after suspected intoxication when he critically injured a woman in a collision on the Gulf Freeway at Joplin. Reportedly, the man was in a yellow pickup truck and travelling at a high rate of speed when he slammed into the back of the Toyota Rav 4 with two women inside. Investigators say the collision caused the driver to lose control of her car and slam into and then fly over the outside retaining wall, causing the car to flip several times. Houston police say the woman riding as a passenger was ejected from the car and was transported to the hospital in critical condition. Sources say the woman who was driving sustained only minor injuries. Reportedly, the man driving the pickup was not injured.
