Texas Legislature Votes to Boost Speeds on Texas Highways

On May 23, 2011, sources say the Texas senate has approved raising speed limits to 75 miles per hour and doing away with slower night time limits.  Reportedly, most non-urban state highways have a speed limit of 70 miles per hour and can be as low as 55 at night.  Supporters of the bill say Texas is one of the few states with different limits for urban and rural areas and the only state with lower night time speeds.  Sources say the bill also the state to conduct studies in order to determine if boosting speeds will be reasonable is some places.  Reportedly, the bill also allows for trucks to travel the same speed as cars.
