Texas Tractor Trailer Accidents Stop Traffic

A busy week on the state’s highways led to a number of Texas tractor trailer accidents. A crash on U.S. Highway 77 near Victoria in South Texas closed the southbound lanes for more than ten hours. A report from the Texas Department of Public Safety showed that the Texas tractor trailer accident occurred early Friday afternoon. The flatbed truck was traveling on the southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 77 when a 2015 black pickup truck swerved from the northbound lanes into southbound traffic. The flatbed hit the pickup head-on, which led to the Texas tractor trailer accident. According to DPS Trooper Ruben San Miguel, the pickup spun 360 degrees, while the flatbed rolled into a ditch between the northbound and southbound lanes.

Trooper San Miguel’s report also showed that the pickup involved in the Texas tractor trailer accident carried several five-gallon plastic jugs of sodium hydroxide, better known as lye or caustic soda. Authorities called a hazardous materials team from Houston to clean up the dangerous spill at the Texas tractor trailer accident scene. The pickup driver was transported by helicopter to San Antonio Military Medical Center, while the flatbed driver was taken by ambulance to Citizens Medical Center in Victoria.

Another Texas tractor trailer accident occurred in northeast Dallas early Friday morning. A tanker truck carrying flammable materials overturned on the LBJ Freeway near Plano Road. The tanker truck reportedly collided with at least two other vehicles, but authorities did not report any serious injuries from the Texas tractor trailer accident. Police re-routed traffic on both sides of the freeway, delaying traffic in both directions for more than seven hours.

Authorities called for a hazmat team to clean up the fuel spill. The cleanup effort kept westbound lanes closed until nearly 1 p.m., seven hours after the accident.
