Tracy Morgan Speaks Out After Fatal 18 Wheeler Wreck

Actor/comedian Tracy Morgan spoke out for the first time after a fatal 18 wheeler wreck left him seriously injured. Mr. Morgan appeared on the “Today” show to discuss the accident and how it changed his life. The fatal 18 wheeler wreck occurred nearly one year ago when a Wal-Mart truck collided with Mr. Morgan’s limousine SUV. The accident took the life of Mr. Morgan’s friend, writer and fellow comedian James “Jimmy Mack” McNair.

Details of the Fatal 18 Wheeler Wreck

On the night of June 7, 2014, Mr. Morgan and his friends were returning to New York from an appearance at a Delaware casino. The fatal 18 wheeler wreck occurred when the Wal-Mart truck crashed into the limousine. A report from the National Transportation Safety Board showed that the truck driver, Kevin Roper, had been traveling at 65 miles per hour a the time of the fatal 18 wheeler wreck, 20 miles per hour over the posted speed limit. The NTSB report also showed that Mr. Roper had been awake for at least 24 straight hours before the accident.

Injuries from the Fatal 18 Wheeler Wreck

Both the driver and passengers in the limousine suffered serious injuries in the fatal 18 wheeler wreck. In addition to the fatal injuries to Mr. McNair, Mr. Morgan suffered a broken leg, broken nose, fractured ribs, and what was later diagnosed as a traumatic brain injury. The fatal 18 wheeler wreck also injured three other passengers, all of whom were fellow comedians and professional acquaintances of Mr. Morgan. Mr. Roper was not injured in the accident, but does face several criminal charges, including one count of death by auto and four counts of injury by auto.

Morgan “Not 100 Percent” After Fatal 18 Wheeler Wreck

Mr. Morgan commented on his physical emotional state nearly one year after the fatal 18 wheeler wreck that took the life of his friend. He told host Matt Lauer that his friend Jimmy Mack “was a loving man, a warm man, (and) a good man.” He said that he has “my good days and my bad days, where I forget things.” He also mentioned frequent headaches and nosebleeds as a consequence of the fatal 18 wheeler wreck. While he voiced his desire to return to comedy, he said he’s “not 100 percent yet” and that “my goal is just to heal and get better.”

Wal-Mart Settles Fatal 18 Wheeler Wreck Lawsuit

The interview comes just days after Mr. Morgan’s attorneys and Wal-Mart reached a settlement in his fatal 18 wheeler wreck lawsuit. A statement by his attorneys read that the terms of the fatal 18 wheeler wreck settlement were confidential and that Mr. Morgan was “grateful that the case was resolved amicably.” Greg Foran, Walmart U.S. president and CEO, also released a statement saying that the company was “pleased to have reached an amicable settlement that ends this litigation.”
